How to Get a Longer Factory Car Warranty

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

How to Get a Longer Factory Car WarrantyWhen you are buying a new car, probably the last thing that you think about is the warranty. However, a new car warranty can be an important way to protect your car, and getting the longest warranty possible makes good economic sense. In order to find the best warranty for your car, you will have to understand that different companies offer different types of new car warranty deals. This can range from different cover provision to length of time that the car is insured by the warranty. The latter can be particularly important when you are insuring a car fresh from the factory.

Finding the Right New Car Warranty

All types of factory-fresh new cars come with a warranty, or in fact several different types of warranty. These are designed to cover various parts of the car. Even if you try to extend the coverage on your vehicle, you may find that the new guarantee does not insure all of the parts which had previously been covered by the policy. In order to find the perfect factory car warranty, you need to get one which will cover you for the longest period possible and will include as many parts as possible.

Parts Covered by the Manufacturer

When your car comes fresh from the factory, there are several manufacturer’s warranties available. These can range from the basic to corrosion and even drive warranties, depending upon how much you have bought. The basic warranty is insured by the manufacturer for a limited number of years. In order to find out exactly how long your basic warranty is, you will need to read the agreement. If you do have this basic warranty, then items such as tires, filters and windscreen wipers will not be covered. Various arrangements will have different levels of coverage – so make sure you check which parts are actually covered.

Getting a Longer New Car Warranty

In order to keep the factory warranty, you will need to arrange to have an extended warranty. When you are looking for this sort of warranty, you will need to be aware that some types of agreement are designed to allow you to cover parts of the car which are not included in the manufacturer’s warranty. If you don’t want additional items on the extended warranty, but instead just wish to make your new car warranty longer, then you should look for this specific item on the extended warranty agreement. These extended warranties can have very different life spans, so you need to research them closely.

Buying a Longer Warranty

The best way to ensure that your new car warranty is the longest you can manage is to try and find a factory insurance which lasts for several years. When taking out your manufacturer’s warranty, you should ask questions about the length of time that the new car warranty will last, and also compare the various time spans of different forms of cover, in order to provide you with the longest possible warranty for your new car.

Mercedes Vito – Going for the Trendy Van Market

Saturday, May 7th, 2011

Mercedes VitoMercedes are well known for building vehicles that suit specific niches – take a look at their car division – everything from tiny urban Smart Cars up to the Maybach that carry Presidents and drug dealers alike. Want a saloon that is also a coupe? Go for the CLS, need a 4×4? Not a problem.

When it comes to vans, however, Mercedes only have a range of two. The Mercedes Sprinter and the Mercedes Vito. The Sprinter is top of the class. Most serious van users will specify the Sprinter over and above the competition – even the Ford Transit in the UK which is usually bought as the safe option or because that’s what’s always been bought.

It is the Mercedes Vito that operates in a more competitive area of the market. Going head to head with the might of the VW’ Transporter – full of heritage and delivered by the automotive genius from Wolfsburg. The Transporter has been the ‘cool’ van for decades. Being loved by the surfing community and other cool groups that need a van for transport has given the van a certain kudos that no other van has at present.

Mercedes are setting out to change all that. The company has already worked a niche with the van into the London Taxi market. Long since the sole domain of the Lti black cab, Mercedes engineered their Vito to meet the stringent requirements for manoeuvrability that usually precludes a van/minibus from entering this market.

The Vito has cornered about a third of this market in just a few years.

The company has now turned its attention to making the van ‘trendy’. The problem with this is if you are seen to be trying too hard to make something cool and trendy, it could totally backfire and make it untrendy, as ‘cool’ people do not want to be seen ‘falling for’ marketing gimmicks.

So what have they done?

They have launched a campaign called ‘made for the people’ which is supported by a dedicated website. The website is designed with the Vito as the main star and the backgrounds being a series of household and working tools that have been transformed into an urban landscape. Cool? I’m no real judge (married with two kids is not usually cool) – but I’d be surprised.

There are going to be a series of roadshows around the UK – at Travis Perkins branches, so maybe the target isn’t surfer-dudes after all. Just your average Bob the Builder!

Nissan Leaf Named “World Car of the Year”

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

Nissan Leaf Named "World Car of the Year"At the recent 2011 New York International Auto Show, many automobile manufacturers brought together their case for the prestigious “World Car of the Year” award. In the end, the all new 2011 Nissan LEAF was deemed with this esteemed award by edging out its closest competitors; the BMW 5-Series and the Audi A8.

The Nissan LEAF impressed the World Car Awards jurors with its conventional driving experience. This allows drivers to feel as if they are in a normal car, only quieter. Jurors also commented that, “Its low center of gravity produced sharp turn-in with almost no body roll and no under steer. The LEAF is the gateway to a brave new electric world from Nissan.”

This 5-seater, 5-door hatchback provides consumers with a driving range of over 100 miles on a full charge and can reach up to speeds of 90 miles per hour. The LEAF is equipped with a 24kWh lithium-ion battery and an 80 kW AC synchronous motor than is 100% electric. Gasoline is no longer required and with that the LEAF releases zero tailpipe emissions.

Nissan’s Chairman and CEO Carlos Ghosn states that, “It is a great joy that the world’s first, mass-marketed electric vehicle, the Nissan LEAF, has won the prestigious award of 2011 World Car of the Year. This accolade recognizes Nissan LEAF, a pioneer in zero-emission mobility, as comparable in its driving performance, quietness and superb handling to gas-powered cars.”

Inside the vehicle, Nissan has equipped the LEAF with the Nissan Navigation System with a seven inch color display that is powered by CARWINGS. The navigation system helps drivers monitor the battery’s charge status, it starts the vehicle’s charging event, and it is used to activate heating and air conditioning systems.

The LEAF comes standard with many important safety features including; Vehicle Dynamic Control and a Traction Control System. The Vehicle Dynamic Control is designed to automatically stabilize the vehicle that would otherwise slide while braking or corning. The Traction Control System helps apply intermittent braking when tires are slipping. During this, the engine speed is automatically reduced until the vehicle returns to the appropriate traction level.

As we turn the page to a new chapter in automotive history, the all new 2011 Nissan LEAF will have engraved its place as an innovator, an economic reliever for its consumers, and as a total asset to our ecosystem as we know it. The Nissan LEAF is the 2011 World Car of the Year.
